National Marine Company has won a contract from Zakum Development Company (Zadco) to construct four artificial islands surrounding its north Zakum field, as a part of a project which aims to increase the production capacity of the field to 750,000 bpd, reported Al-Bayan daily.
The total cost of the project is US $15 billion.The contract is part of a plan from Zadco to increase the production capacity of the field from 500,000 bpd to 750,000bpd.
Zadco aims to use the islands to establish drilling platforms and the utilities, a process the company said will save 30% in cost compared to traditional methods.
Last month it was revealed that Zadco will award US $4 billion worth of contracts over the next 18 months. Zadco is a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), ExxonMobil and the Japan Oil Development Company.
