ArabianOilandGas.com has exclusively revealed today that the former head of the Libyan oil industry, Shokri Ghanem, may be returning to his two former roles, as the country’s energy minister and chairman of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC).
Details of the return remain sketchy, but the news from inside Libya is that Ghanem had grown weary of outside political interference and will only return on his own terms.
Tarek Alwan, MD of the Sahra Oil Consultancy, a company that helps international firms invest in the north African state sent me an email with the below comment.
“I was in Libya last week and spoke to people in NOC and they say that he may come but only on his terms. I don’t know what they are, but I assume that he wants to run NOC more independently and without anymore intervening from any individuals or bodies outside NOC.”
