Cased hole logging: Q&A with TecWel’s Karim Nasr

We are proud to say that TecWel is an award-winning company with its unique Well Leak Detector (WLD) technology – an ultrasonic downhole leak detection service, which is the only one of its kind in the world.

The Well Leak Detector (WLD), a cased-hole logging tool, detects and locates leakage in a wellbore with a depth accuracy of a few inches. Any oil, gas, water or multiphase fluid leak can be detected with rates from as small as 0.02 litre/min (or 0.004 GPM) and upwards. Also multiple leaks in a wellbore can be detected. With the WLD TecWel is able to detect any leak in the production packer, expansion joint, or any other subassembly.

With the global economic recession, oil companies in the region have focused more on maintaining their operating wells rather than drilling others and maximizing their inflow from the reservoirs. Generally, well integrity and production optimization have taken a greater cut of the budgets.

Technology pipeline

The TecWel R&D team is continuously on the move to furnish the service industry with top notch innovative tools. The latest addition to the suite of services provided by TecWel is the Well Performance Eye (WPE), to be commercially available in ME region during the first quarter of 2010. The WPE is an advanced high frequency ultrasound logging tool which will give our clients a visual image of the conditions inside the well bore. Instead of graphic curves, they will be able to see the results as a 3D visualisation on a PC screen. The WPE can be described as a down-hole camera. But, there are no optical lenses!

Engaging our support services helps oil companies identify the source of a problematic well through rig-less technology, allows good work-over planning and saves millions of dollars from being spent on rig operations. In some cases it even allows an opportunity to fix the problem riglessly without the requirement of a work-over operation.

Expectations

Operations are expected to increase to year end. We hope to observe a continuous positive trend in 2010. In preparation for this anticipated growth, TecWel is presently expanding its base in Abu Dhabi – UAE, and increasing the work force accordingly.”
