The recent announcement that a new US$1.5 billion oil refinery is to be built in Syria by a joint venture involving Venezuela and Iran is great news for Syria and will obviously mean that there will be some excellent opportunities for local contractors to bid for lucrative construction contracts.
However, there is one thing that is bothering us somewhat at ArabianOilandGas.com and that is the acronym of Venezuela Iran Oil and Gas Company, the joint venture company that will be in charge of the project.
Surely someone in the marketing department could have come up with something better than VENIROGC? VENIROGC must be the worst acronym ever to grace our illustrious industry – just looking at it actually hurts our eyes.
What makes it worse is that the oil and gas sector is usually pretty good at making up catchy acronyms. OPEC, ADNOC and ARAMCO are all excellent examples of how it should be done.
So ArabianOiland Gas.com is asking its readers to help VENIROGCÂ out and come up with a better acronym for the company. All of the good ones will be emailed to VENIROGC by ArabianOilandGas.com.
Or maybe you’d like to add to our hall of shame and nominate another company that has an even acronym than VENIROGC.
