ArabianOilandGas.com always likes an industry shindig and they don’t get much bigger than the Oil Barons Ball, which is being held at the Media City Amphitheatre in Dubai on November 20.
Over 2,500 guests are expected to attend, making it the largest event of its kind in the Middle East and Europe. The highlight of the event will be the announcement of the Oil Baron of 2009.

- The Oil Baron is nominated by his industry peers and the candidate with the most votes is crowned on the night. The Oil Baron is someone who has made a significant contribution to his company and the industry, and such a contribution deserves to be recognised.

- Last year’s Oil Baron was Colin Finnegan of SPD.
- This year’s Oil Barons Ball will celebrate 50 years of Motown, with with tribute bands covering the Drifters, the Supremes, Jackson 5 and BB King amongst other soul classics.
- Individual tickets cost 1,150 AED, or tables of 10 costing 10,000 AED.
- The amount of beverages consumed at last year’s Oil Barons Ball would fill six barrels of oil.
- The number of hours spent dancing at an Oil Barons Ball would burn off a total off 3,750,000 calories.
- Oil industry legend JR Ewing has been quoted as saying it’s his favourite event of the year.
