It’s not often that a spokesperson makes an announcement of a successful contract award on a rival’s behalf, but that seems to be exactly what happened yesterday.
ArabianOilandGas.com reported last week that SNC-Lavalin and KBR were neck and neck in the race to be awarded the FEED and project management contracts for two major Saudi Aramco gas projects, the Wasit Gas Development Program (WGDP) and the Shaybah natural gas liquids project.
The Canadian contractor announced on Monday that it had been awarded the WGDP contract, but the spokesman also added that KBR had been awarded Shaybah. However, the Wall Street Journal reported that a KBR spokesman said the company “have anything to report at this time” about the Shaybah project and that “everything is still a work in progress.”
Hmmm, it seems there has been a breakdown in communication at the Houston-based company. A statement or press release would be a good idea sometime today fellas.
Or better still they could ask SNC-Lavalin’s PR department to sort it. It seems they know more about the matter than their counterparts at KBR.
