Has Ghanem gone?

Reports from Libya say that the country's top official has quit

Reports from the newswires have said that the Libyan oil minister, Shokri Ghanem has tendered his resignation as chairman of the state-owned National Oil Corporation (NOC).

The Middle East Economic Survey (MEES) has cited a Triploi official as the source but as yet no official announcment has been made.

In June Ghanem gave an interview to ArabianOilandGas.com and said that Libya planned to invest US$42 billion in the next five years to develop and expand its upstream sector.

Libya has been dominating the world’s headlines recently following the release of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, the Libyan found guilty of the Lockerbie bombing, on compassionate grounds.

The UK government has been forced to deny that al-Megrahi’s was part of a trade deal between the two countries.

If anyone can either confirm or deny the story please send an email or leave a comment.
