The World Petroleum Congress is playfully billed as the Olympic Games of the Oil & Gas Industry. Held every three years, it is regarded as the largest event of its kind for the sector as a whole.

This year’s event in Madrid gave a stage to the biggest movers and shapers for the global hydrocarbon business, one that saw common themes develop from major international oil company CEOs in their keynote addresses.

Unsurprisingly, greater transparency, the elimination of corruption and greater price stability were among the hot topics – as they always are. Oil major senior executives also seemed to agree on wider global goals for the industry and governments, and the issues that stood out included developing the role and scope of carbon capture, and the cap and trade system for carbon emissions.

The environment played a key role in many of the executive presentations, and the companies were keen to play up their role as part of the solution. Click below to access full coverage of the keynote addresses and plenary sessions featuring the worlds biggest oil players.
