ADIPEC 2017 preview Q&A: ASMEF

Interviewee: Mohamed Metawie, Division Manager, Ali & Sons Marine Engineering Factory (ASMEF)

What is your company’s scope of business within the oil and gas industry?

Ali and Sons Marine Engineering Factory is a part of Ali and Sons Group Holding, which has been operating in the UAE for the past 39 years. We are a diversified facility serving various sectors of the oil and gas industry, from rig and jack-up repairs, refurbishment, and modification, to offshore supply vessel (OSV) repairs. This is in addition a portfolio of services for the oil and gas sector such as modules, e-houses, jackets, pressure vessels, site work, and so on.

In which countries in the Middle East are you most active, and how do you plan to expand your reach in the region?

We mainly concentrate on the UAE, with very active plans to expand to cover the GCC. We are getting into the Saudi market, and we have also been working closely with our partners in Kuwait to enhance our opportunities there.

Who are your clients, and what oil and gas projects have you have been involved with recently?

We serve the ADNOC group, directly and indirectly. We have been involved in the UZ 750 project, the Mender Project, and have been working towards winning more opportunities for BAB and other projects, as well.

Ali and Sons Marine Engineering has completed qualification with the ADNOC group of companies, with more than 35 work groups. Our services extend from building in our yard, to various activities on site. We have been developing our facility to create a one-stop shop that enables us to compete on cost without reducing quality. We have partnered with well known brands such as Keppel LET, BENTEC, TMP, and Samson.

Why did you decide to participate in ADIPEC 2017?

ADIPEC provides us with a great exposure and it is a great venue to showcase our capabilities, meet clients, discuss opportunities, and collaborate with visitors and exhibitors. We have been very successful at previous ADIPEC events, in terms of finding opportunities, increasing our exposure, and getting information and market updates.

At the show this year, we will mainly be focusing on our new collaborations in the rig and jack-up business, in addition to our advancements in oil and gas. We will showcase completed projects, such as e-houses, steel work for platforms, and our new-build vessels and rig refurbishment projects. We will also  inform clients about our new developments and partnerships.

ADIPEC is proven to be the best venue for our business. Unlike other events, ADIPEC provides vast exposure to different sectors and high-profile clients. We have participated at various other events, but ADIPEC is a large event that brings together people from all over the world, so it enhances our exposure and helps us in our marketing efforts.
