ADIPEC 2017 preview Q&A: Clarcor

Interviewee: Daniel Burch, Global Marketing Manager, CLARCOR Industrial Air, a Parker company

What is your company’s scope of business within the oil and gas industry?

Clarcor Industrial Air (now part of Parker Hannifin) provides complete gas turbine inlet systems and filtration solutions for the oil and gas and power-generation industries. Its work in oil and gas applications includes LNG trains, refineries, pipelines, offshore platforms, FPSOs and onshore power generation. Its systems and products are specifically designed for the harsh environments often experienced at a gas turbine installation, ensuring the protection and efficient performance of gas turbines while maximising availability and predictable operations.

Filters and other inlet house systems are designed and engineered based on a detailed understanding of local environmental challenges for each particular installation, using products that have been specially designed for oil and gas applications. These include the Altair Static Offshore System, Altair ODSY vCell filter, the new Clearcurrent PRO SP+ cartridge filter, and TS1000 coalescers.

In which countries within the Middle East are you most active, and how do you plan to expand your reach in the region?

We are active in most of the countries in the Middle East but have a particularly strong presence in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Egypt. We are committed to developing business in the Middle East and, in line with this strategy, have recently started production in Saudi Arabia.

We use many local employees to support our business in the region and, alongside local production, have technical support in the area.

We have a long history and experience of supporting both NOCs and IOCs across upstream and downstream activities. Our projects range from the design and construction of complete new gas turbine inlet houses, through to the ongoing supply of replacement filters. A great deal of our work includes improving the performance of existing facilities where operators experience challenges. These can include unscheduled shutdowns due to occurrences of sudden pressure spikes, or unacceptable levels of maintenance because a filtration solution has not been designed to handle all environmental aspects, such as dust, moisture, and salt ingress.

We support customers with tuning their systems to operate with practical lifespans and runtimes, and predictable operation, including at the end of filter life. We develop technology that is specifically designed to handle local conditions experienced in the Middle East, and our understanding of what affects filtration solutions and turbines has led to us to provide solutions that have increased system performance and reliability.

Why did you decide  to participate in ADIPEC 2017?

The oil and gas industry within the Middle East region is a central part of our long-term business strategy. ADIPEC provides a large platform where we can present not only our technical capability, but also the level of local support, local contact, and local production that we can provide to operators in this region.

What will you be showcasing at ADIPEC this year?

We will be showing our full range of solutions for oil and gas applications. However, the main focus of our presence will be the launch of the new Clearcurrent PRO SP+ filter. This new filter has been specifically designed for the high dust volumes often experienced in the Middle East and sets a new standard for gas turbine protection in the region, through superior dust-holding capacity and pulse-ability. It meets stringent Saudi Aramco standards, and maintains differential pressure for long periods to keep turbines operating normally.
