Oil & Gas and RPME Awards to recognise water management solution providers

Where treating the discharges generated by the refining and petrochemicals sector is concerned, the wastewater can be re-used once it has been treated, which therefore enables water resources to be preserved.

The Oil & Gas Middle East and Refining & Petrochemicals Middle East 2017 Awards will have a new category this year for the ‘Water Management Solution of the Year’.

Water is used throughout the oil and gas project lifecycle. Many environmental regulations over the recent years related to petroleum product quality have resulted in re-configuration of refining operations and the addition of energy intensive units, which have added a significant need for water to be diverted from various sources.

The oil and gas industry consumes large amounts of water and also produces large amounts of water due to the extraction of oil and gas. The oil and gas companies, to meet their specific requirements, rely on water treatment specialists in order to guarantee production continuity, and comply with increasingly strict environmental standards.

An updated water management plan could considerably increase the environmental performance and economic efficiency of the refineries and petrochemical manufacturing complexes, making those more market competitive, due to the importance of water in the refinery and petrochemical operations.

Another important point is that based on the feedstock quality, there is a need for use of certain technologies that are more water intensive. Despite these additional requirements, the downstream petroleum industry in the Middle East has made major achievements in water use efficiency, thanks to the innovative water management solutions available for the sector.

Today’s water treatment challenges can directly impact the effectiveness of bacteria and corrosion control, compromising the integrity of key pieces of heat transfer equipment and negatively affecting the energy efficiency of process units. Hence, effective operation of systems is critical to sustainable and reliable operations.

Both water quality and quantity are becoming a global environmental concern and water is a finite resource. From multiple users, a huge majority of wastewater flows back into the environment untreated, where it may cause environmental damage. By efficient use of water recycling and re-use strategies, as well as treatment options, this can be combatted.

Meanwhile, the nomination process for the eighth edition of Oil & Gas Middle East and Refining & Petrochemicals Middle East Awards – to be held on 12 September 2017 at Four Seasons Resort Dubai, Jumeirah Beach – is progressing in full momentum.

This year, the nomination procedure is completely modified with the introduction of a digital platform (http://www.arabianoilandgas.com/oil-gas-awards/), making the entry of nomination process far easier and quicker.

Entrants can now use the simplified online system to complete their entry, as well as upload supporting documents, making the entire process user-friendly and time-saving. The last date for submitting the nominations is 20 July 2017.

The Water Management Solution of the Year will be recognised for its uniqueness, innovation and value creation. If you think your water management solution is according to the above-mentioned benchmarks, please send in your nomination, citing why your solution should be considered for the award.
