Four Italian nationals have been kidnapped in Libya near a compound owned by Italian oil company Eni, the Italian foreign ministry announced on Monday.
The group, which was reportedly travelling from the Tunisian border, was abducted by unknown assailants near the oil and gas port of Mellitah on Sunday.
All four men are employees of Italy’s EPC contractor Bonatti, which is current working on a 520km-long pipeline running from Libya to Italy.
Bonatti has also provided security arrangements at Eni’s sites to help the company maintain production, the Wall Street Journal reported in April.
Eni is the only international oil company that is still producing in Libya.
