Saudi Arabia’s Yasref refinery has exported its first shipment of petroleum coke, according to a company statement.
The 400,000 barrel per day Yasref refinery is the product of a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Chinese oil firm Sinopec. The refinery has previously completed export shipments of diesel and gasoline.
Petroleum coke (petcoke) is produced from heavier, high sulphur crudes, such as the Arabian Heavy blend used by Yasref. 49,000 tonnes of petcoke were loaded onto a tanker at the Saudi port of Yanbu on Tuesday. Industry sources told Reuters news agency that the shipment was bound for India.
