Houston-headquartered ProSep, has launched a joint water treatment technology agreement with Qatar Petroleum and Petroleum Development Oman.
The twelve-month project, which started in December last year, will see the three companies work together to develop an offshore capable unit for oil-in-water removal and media regeneration using ProSep’s water treatment technology.
Commercial unit will be integrated into the target process stream for extended trialling for three months.
Preliminary media testing has already started, with the next steering group meeting set to take place in March 2015 in Doha, Qatar. The project is still open for late participants.
“This project marks the first truly collaborative ITF-sponsored JIP between two national oil companies in the Middle East,” said Patrick O’Brien, chief executive of ITF.
“We are delighted to facilitate this collaborative technology development in the Gulf Cooperation Council and look forward to seeing the results that ProSep achieves.”
Ryan McPherson, general manager, Middle East for ProSep, added: “Our Osorb Media technology offers significant benefits to operators for the treatment of produced water for reinjection or discharge.”
ProSep’s Osorb Media technology adsorbs free, dispersed, and water soluble hydrocarbons, as well as many oilfield chemicals from produced water.
