Iran plans to establish oil terminals in four islands to diversify export outlets from the biggest oil terminal on Kharg Island which accounts for more than 90% of its crude exports, a report said.
The new terminals will be constructed on the islands of Jask, Lavan, Sirri and Qeshm, according to Iran Daily, which cited a reprot by IRNA.
The terminal at Jask island in the south will be set up on the coasts of the Sea of Oman and will shorten tankers routes once established, the report added.
The project will feature a 2,200km pipeline and a number of storage depots, each with a capacity of 20mn barrels.
Plans are underway to construct similar terminals in Lavan and Sirri islands, Pirouz Mousavi, the managing director of Iranian Oil Terminals Company, was quoted as saying.
June last year Akbar Torkan, the secretary of Iran’s Free Trade Zones Coordination Council, said that “the facility [on Jask island] will be Iran’s second oil export terminal.”Â
