Sabotage closes Libya’s El Sarir oil pipeline

Hariga is the last of Libya's operational export ports

Sabotage to a northern section of pipeline has left Libya’s El Sarir oil field unable to pump oil to Hariga port.

A small explosion damaged the pipeline on Saturday, leaving it ablaze and halting crude flows to Hariga. Hariga is the last of Libya’s land-based oil export ports still loading after two other large terminals were closed as a result of fighting.

“The fire has been extinguished. There is only minor damage. We will need three days to fix it,” the official told Reuters.

As the country descends into near anarchy, Libya’s oil production has dwindled from a high of 1.6mn bpd to just 350,000 bpd.
