The chairman and CEO of energy giant Total, Christophe de Margerie, has died after his plane collided with a snow plow at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow.
In a statement, Total said De Margerie died just after 10pm (Paris time) on October 20. He was 63 years of age.
Four people were found dead at the scene of the accident, including three crew member and De Margerie.
The Vedomosti business daily said he had met the Russian prime minister, Dmitry Medvedev, to discuss foreign investment in Russia just hours before his death.
“The thoughts of the management and employees of the Group go out to Christophe de Margerie’s wife, children and loved ones as well as to the families of the three other victims,” said Total.
“The Governance and Ethics Committee and the Board of Directors will meet without delay.”
