General Electric has been awarded a sales contract for the supply of 200 overland pumps to the Egyption petroleum company Badr El Din. The contract has an initial duration of two years.
GE Northeast Africa CEO Sofian Bin Tunis said BAPTECO has now taken over work in the “Abusnan” concession area in Egypt’s Western Desert.
GE and PETROBEL, an affiliate of the Egyptian General Petroleum Company (EGPC) jointly owned by EGPC and Italy’s Eni, have undertaken a number of projects in Egypt to enhance oil and gas production in its concession areas. GE also runs a joint project with Burullus Gas Company for the changing of under-water control systems for fields set to be re-developed and new sites.
Bin Tunis explained that GE plans to complete the installation of eight sophisticated F model gas turbines for the North Giza and Banha power plants while simultaneously providing many other services to support expansion, expected to add an additional 3,000 MW to Egypt’s national electricity grid, representing 10% of the energy provided by the grid overall.
Several major power stations projects were launched in North Cairo and the Shabab and El Kureimat stations west of Damietta by GE. The company has also announced the installation of more than 85 advanced gas turbines in the country estimated to generate more than 9.5GW of power, enough to supply electricity for about 7m homes.
According to Bin Tunis, GE’s total revenues from the MENA and Turkey region reached $10bn in 2013.
