Iran has announced plans for building ten compressed natural gas stations according to the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company’s director for CNG, Zawya news website has reported.Â
The company’s director, Amir Vakilzadeh, said the construction of stations will be launched, once Iran’s gas pipeline to Iraq becomes operational in March 2015.
Based on agreements signed between Tehran and Baghdad, 7mn m3 per day of Iran’s natural gas will be delivered to Iraq in the first phase.
Vakilzadeh also said Tehran and Moscow have recently signed an agreement for exporting Iranian CNG equipment to Russia.
Iran, which sits on the world’s biggest gas reserves, intends to enhance gas production by increasing foreign and domestic investments, especially in its South Pars Gas Field.
South Pars, which is divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf on the border between Iran and Qatar. The field is estimated to contain about 14 trillion m3 of gas and 18bn barrels of gas condensates.Â
