Iran is taking further action to follow the terms of an extended interim agreement with the P5 +1 nations, Reuters has reported based on a IAEA report.
Since the deal was extended by four months in July, Iran has been using some of its higher-grade enriched uranium in oxide form to produce fuel – a step postulated in the agreement that experts say would make it harder to be used in any atomic activities.
A paper published by the International Atomic Energy Agency said Iran had used 12.5kg (28 lbs) of its 20% uranium in oxide form for manufacturing fuel since 24th of July. It also said Iran had begun preparatory work for diluting more than 4t. of uranium gas enriched to up to 2%.
The report published on Friday said Iran is continuing to meet its commitments under the parliamentary accord it reached with United States, France, Germany, Britain, China and Russia late last year and that took effect in January.
Under the deal’s extension, Iran will receive $2.8bn in previously frozen oil revenue held in banks abroad, in addition to the $4.2bn it got during the January-July period. In exchange Tehran agreed to make nuclear fuel for a research reactor and diluting a large amount of low-enriched uranium.
