Iran expects to begin exporting gas to neighbouring Iraq, once the current ISIL crisis is resolved, according to the country’s assistant of the Ministry of Oil in international affairs and business, Ali Majidi.

Majidi said in news to (Arna) agency, seen by ” Shafaq News” that “two agreements for exporting gas to Iraq have been signed to transport gas through Basra and Baghdad as Baghdad Agreement will be implemented from the beginning of the next Iranian year”.

About the process of extending gas pipelines to Iraq , Majidi said that building the main pipeline in Iraq to transport gas has completed while the Iranian part did not complete yet.

He explained that Iraq, which will be supplied by gas from Iran through three of its stations, was unable to complete the sub-pipelines of the main pipeline in its territory because of the outbreak of ISIL crisis.

He emphasized that the Iranian section of the pipeline transportation of gas to Iraq will be completed after two months at the latest.
Ali added that the test gas pumping will be carried out after the end of the process of building the pipeline in both countries where they will export about 7 million cubic meters of gas per day to increase to 25 million cubic meters per day.

Currently, there are serious talks between Tehran and Baghdad on increasing the volume of exports of Iranian gas to Iraq by 40 million cubic meters per day so that Iraq would be the biggest customers of Iranian gas after Turkey.
