The Iranian oil ministry has acquired 12 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) road tankers as it aims to export more products.

According to Mohammad Souri, an aide to the oil minister, Iran lacked the capability to export LPG and petrochemical products sufficiently in the past due to shortage of LPG tankers.

“Now, with the purchase of 12 vessels, it is possible to export these products,” said Souri.

He said Iran had only eight vessels for carrying LPG and petrochemical products.

“We hope that the export of these products will increase, although we are still facing shortages,” he said.

LPG is a flammable mixture of hydrocarbon gases used as a fuel in heating appliances, cooking equipment and vehicles. The National Iranian Gas Company aims to sell $1 billion worth of LPG.
