Petrol prices in Tunisia rose 6.3% following subsidy cuts made by its government on Tuesday. The price of lead-free petrol rose to $0.99 a litre from $0.93 as the government aims to trim budget deficit.
Tunisia’s forecasted budget deficit for this year is about 8% of the country’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and The North African country has stated that it will cut spending to support its economy which is still under recovery from the unrest in 2011.
The country’s last increase in fuel prices prior to this was in March 2013.
