Natural gas production from Iran’s South Pars (SP) gas field is expected to double this month. The CEO of Petropars, Mohammad Javad Shams said last Thursday that gas output from Phase 12 of South Pars will increase to 25 million cubic meters (mcm) per day by June 21.
The current production capacity of Phase 12 sits at 12 mcm per day, and is expected to double when the second stage of Phase 12 goes on stream in about three weeks.
Shams said the third and fourth stages of Phase 12 will be operational between November 22 and December 21, which he said will increase gas production from Phase 12 to 50 mcm per day. He also stated that Phase 12 which is the biggest phase in terms of investment and production levels is 95 % complete.
The phase will see about 75 mcm of sweet gas pumped into the national network annually when fully operational.
Iran’s giant South Pars gas field is estimated to contain 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensates. It is located in Southern Iran and covers 3,700 square kilometers of Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.
