The Pars Oil & Gas Company confirmed on Wednesday that the 2,800 metric ton offshore derrick platform of the 16th Phase of Iran’s South Pars, was set up In Persian Gulf waters on Wednesday successfully.

According to news site Zawya, the Pars Oil and Gas Company told IRNA on Wednesday that the process of setting up the offshore derrick had all been implemented in accordance with the schedule and that the derrick will start production as per schedule within a six month period from now, meeting its expected functions.

According to the programming and design of this mammoth sea structure, the production and preliminary processing of sour gas excavated from 11 wells of the 16th Phase of South Pars shared gas field will with Qatar be through this derrick.

As a result, this border block, while boosting Iran’s production capacity, Iran will achieve a daily production level of one billion square feet plus 40,000 of precious gas condensates.

The gas and gas condensates produced by this project will then be transferred through a pipeline under the seabed to the refineries of the Asalouyeh mainland’s Phase 15 and 16 refineries, providing a part of the country’s natural gas demands in seasonal peak consumption period, prior to its beginning this year cold season.

The 2,800 metric ton weigh of the derrick earlier mentioned is exclusively the weight of the 16th Phase oil derrick’s platform, while each of the carrier pillars of it weighs 1,700 metric tons and there are a huge amount of advanced technical facilities manufactured by Iranian electronic engineering firms installed in various parts of the sea structure.

A high-ranking Iranian energy official said earlier in the week that the first segment of two phases of the South Pars gas field will come on stream in the next few days.

On Sunday, National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Managing Director Ahmad Qalebani paid a visit to the refinery of phases 15 and 16 of South Pars gas field, and lauded endeavors made by Iranian contractors and experts to launch the first phase of the gas sweetening project at the refinery of the phases.

“It makes us proud that the Iranian experts have succeeded in designing, constructing and launching a mega gas project for the first time. We hope that such an experience would prepare the ground for the successful commission of other major projects in this joint field,” he stated.

On July 23, the former Iranian oil minister Rostam Qasemi said the development of the different phases of the South Pars gas field is going ahead despite US-engineered sanctions against Iran over its nuclear energy program.

“South Pars phases are being developed through the efforts and endeavors of capable Iranian specialists and experts, and despite sanctions and certain difficulties, the development of this joint field is progressing satisfactorily,” he said.

The South Pars gas field is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the common border between Iran and Qatar. It is estimated that the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates.
