South Sudan has maintained steady oil production figures, despite the threat of conflict in the main oil producing region of Upper Nile.
Last week the central government over ruled a decision to send foreign oil workers home, as fighting broke out in the regional capital of Malakal.
South Sudanese officials have now confirmed that production figures have remained steady at around 160,000 barrels per day. This figure is consistent with production values prior to January, when the country saw a sharp increase in violent attacks. However, the figure is down by approximately one third from the country’s peacetime production record of 245,000 bpd.
Oil companies currently operating in South Sudan include China National Petroleum Corp and Malaysia’s Petronas.
