Saudi Arabian Oil Co.’s (Saudi Aramco) Mohammed Al-Madi is set to replace Yasser Mufti as the Kingdom’s OPEC governor, according to a person with knowledge of the matter, Bloomberg reported.

Al-Madi, who heads the Korean unit of Saudi Aramco will probably take up the position next year as Mufti plans to step down by the end of 2013, the person told the news agency, declining to be identified because the appointment hasn’t been announced publicly.

Al-Madi speaks Chinese and two other languages in addition to his native Arabic. He has expertise in international crude oil sales and marketing, according to Aramco’s website. He was a regional vice president of Saudi Petroleum Ltd. in Beijing and since November 2012 has been managing director of Aramco Asia Korea, the company said on its website.

Al-Madi holds a master’s degree in business administration from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia and completed the requirements for a doctorate in petroleum engineering from the University of Petroleum in Beijing, according to the website.
