Petrofac group backlog climbs to $11.9 billion

In a pre-close trading update, Petrofac has announced that group backlog has reached $11.9 billion at 31 May 2013.

Within its onshore engineering and construction division, the company has been kept busy with work in Abu Dhabi’s Upper Zakum field development and the emirate’s Asab oil field in addition to its contracts on the El Merk gas processing facility in Algeria, and the South Yoloten project in Turkmenistan.

Operations in Algeria’s In Salah southern fields have been temporary halted following the In Amenas terrorist attacks in January 2013, but the company expects to recommence full site operations during the second half of the year, according to the statement.

The division’s backlog stood at $5.7 billion by 31 May 2013, reflecting Petrofac’s share of the Upper Zakum field, which was augmented by $0.4 billion in June with the award of the Bab Compression and Bab Habshan projects.

Within its offshore projects and operations division, the company has a portfolio of operations support contracts which amounted to a backlog of $3.0 billion by 31 May 2013. These included the award of the $515 million EPIC contract by Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company for package 3 of the Satah Al Razboot (SARB) project, and the $50 million three-year operations and maintenance contract in June for Oman Oil company Exploration and Production.
