Algerian troops have brought an end to the In Amenas hostage crisis after storming the facility Saturday, January 19, 2013.

The country’s interior ministry said in a statement that 23 hostages and 32 militants were killed after the attack on the gas plant. It also stated that 107 foreign hostages and 685 Algerian hostages had been released.

’’After the intervention of the Algerian military forces in the gas plant of Tiguentourine and the terrorists flushed out, it was noticed that the plant was mined in order to blow it out,’’ Sonatrach said in a release.

A terrorist group of about thirty individuals attacked the site early Wednesday, January 16, 2013, and held Algerian and foreign employees in the gas plant of Tiguentourine.

According to a report by Reutuers, an Algerian security source said eight Algerians and at least seven foreigners were among the victims, including two Japanese, two Britons and a French national. One British citizen was killed when the gunmen seized the hostages on Wednesday said the report.

During Saturday final raid, eleven terrorists were killed, security sources told the Algerian Press Service.
