Michel Laine has been appointed as chief operating officer of Samsung Engineering’s newly established offshore segment.
Laine began his career in offshore in 1982 with ETPM, followed by Technip and Bouygues Offshore S.A., which was later acquired by Saipem. Since 2002, he has held key management positions as the managing director of Saipem Indonesia and Saipem Singapore, and as the chairman and chief executive officer of Saipem S.A. (France).
Laine’s experience will help Samsung Engineering develop its oil and gas offshore projects capacities, ranging from wellheads, large-scale production platforms, topsides, FPSOs and FLNGs.
The new appointment highlights Samsung Engineering’s move to break into the offshore market. In October 2012, the company formed AMEC Samsung Oil and Gas LLC (ASOG) to bring together AMEC’s design engineering capability and extensive experience in offshore projects with Samsung’s project management expertise and shipbuilding technology.
