Pearl GTL shines at Oil & Gas Middle East awards

Qatar partners recognised for work on Pearl GTL plant

Shell and Qatar Petroleum have celebrated their recent success at the Oil & Gas Middle East Awards in Dubai last night. The partnership which has seen the successful development of the Pearl GTL plant.

The plant processes 1.6 billion cubic feet a day of wellhead gas from the world’s largest single non-associated gas field and is expected to process about three billion barrels of oil equivalent over its lifetime. The offshore scope includes 22 development wells, two unmanned wellhead platforms in about 30 metres of water and two 30-inch pipelines running about 60km to shore.

The award, presented by Ibrahim Al-Alawi, deputy chief executive officer of AlMansoori was received by Rob Sherwin, deputy country chairman Qatar shell and Nabeel S. Al-Saadi Deputy Vice President Production Qatar Shell GTL.

“Gas to liquids remains an innovative technology; there are very few plants in the world. Shell and Qatar petroleum our partner have helped to create Qatar as the GTL capital of the world. Our plant is only world scale gas to liquids plant that in itself is a major innovation,” said Sherwin. “It is one of the most complex hydrocarbon facilities, a fully integrated upstream and downstream project. It is a facility that produces fuels and products that are clean burning and better for the world,” he continued.

The awards evening, organised by Oil & Gas Middle East and ArabianOilandGas.com, had its third outing last night at Dubai’s luxury Westin Hotel.

Awards were presented in thirteen categories, and Shell and Qatar Petroleum celebrated alongside firms including Total and Schlumberger on the winners’ podium.
