British Petroleum has released its 83 page, BP Energy Outlook 2030 report.
The report highlights an overall worldwide energy demand growth of 40% over the next two decades. It states that energy demand will grow from 12.0 billion tonnes of oil equivalent in 2010 to 16.6 billion tonnes of oil equivalent by 2030.
The report also shows that virtually all the growth coming from developing nations. Where as in 2010, OECD demand for energy was approximately 5.6 billion tonnes of oil equivalent, it will increase to 5.8 billion by 2030. On the other hand, Non-OECD demand will increase from 6.4 billion tonnes of oil equivalent to 10.9 billion.
By 2020, coal’s share of the global market will begin to fall and both the Americas and Eurasia will achieve self-sufficiency in energy. Oil will account for 87% of energy type making up transport fuel by 2030, whereas Biofuels will take up 7%, gas 4% and coal and electricity 1% each.
The report also states that by 2030, average fuel economy of new cars will have risen to 55 miles per US gallon, as opposed to the current 35 miles per US gallon. And Hybrid cars will account for roughly 30% of all vehicles on the road be 2030.
