Petronor Group has launched the second phase of Southern Iraq’s first fully serviced community at Iraq Energy City (IEC) in Basra, Southern Iraq.
The Dubai-based company provides services to the oil and gas industry with a particular focus on Iraq, it received the contract to establish the IEC, located 20 minutes from the Al Bashra International Airport, as an Oil Field Base in 2009.
The project will provide a full range of amenities and recreational facilities for residents. It will include a cinema, restaurant, café, swimming pools and a commercial sports center in addition to a community running track and outdoor sports courts.
The development will also provide a world-class Medical Center featuring its own Intensive Care Unit, a training centre that will provide English courses and a banking and communications infrastructure.
“With an extensive background in the oil industry, our vision for Iraq Energy City was a community that would fully service the needs of residents from daily essentials including comfortable living, dining, cleaning and laundry to sports, recreation and medical care,” said Peter Day, CEO of Petronor Group.
Primarily catering to the Oil & Gas corporations and associated engineering and services industries, the development, which was granted a lease for more than 170,000 square meters through a contract with South Oil Company, will lease commercial real estate to international companies looking to enter the Iraq market.
Support for commercial tenants will range from offices, warehouses and workshops to business support, making entry into the Iraq market affordable for both large and small companies.
There are currently 300 live-in residents in the city and a daily workforce of more than 400 professionals. Petronor has plans to expand the capacity to over 400 rooms by the end of 2012 and 1000 rooms by the end of 2013.
