Saudi Aramco geoscientists and petroleum engineers model a hydrocarbon reservoir in Dhahran’s 3-D Visualization Center. The 3-D models are computer-based displays of various integrated sets of data, including seismic data, well logs, core sample analyses, and reservoir simulators.

Today, Saudi Aramco Aviation operates a fleet of 38 fixed wing and rotary aircraft such as this 737 at Shaybah airport.

Seismic readings being taken from atop a sand dune at Shaybah, 1993. First discovered in 1968, the Shaybah field was held in inventory until economic conditions and improvements in technology made exploitation feasible. Shaybah is located in some of the harshest terrain on the globe, in the Rub? al-Khali or Empty Quarter, 800 kilometers southeast of Dhahran, The field holds more than 14 billion barrels of oil, roughly equivalent to the reserves of the North Sea and some 25 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. By the end of 2008, the expansion of Shaybah’s crude oil production capacity by 250,000 bpd will bring its total capacity to 750,000 bpd.
