Perdido’s great journey

The Perdido platform is located 200 miles off the coast of the United States in the Gulf of Mexico. Perdido, a joint venture between Shell, BP and Chevron, is the world’s deepest oil and gas spar and will produce 130,000 barrels of oil per day when fully operational. The massive spar structure was built in Finland and shipped by barge to the US. This is its journey.

The top section of the platform is towed out to the final site by barge.

The spar structure about to be lifted into place by Heerema Marine Contractors.

Light at the end of the tunnel. Work on putting the spar in place is almost completed.

The sun sets on Perdido.
