Bahrain Oil Minister Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa said that Italian energy company Eni will begin drilling in the country this year. He spoke on the sidelines of the MoU signing between Bahrain’s National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and Eni.Â
The deal includes exploration for oil and gas in Bahrain’s nothern offshore block. Al Khalifa noted that it had been approved by the country’s Higher Committee for Natural Resources, Cabinet, Shura and representative councils.
NOGA and Tatweer are expected to conduct more studies on hydrocarbon discoveries in the coming years.
This was one of several recent regional announcements by Eni, which include an exploration and production sharing agreement for Oman’s onshore Block 47, three of Sharjah’s onshore exploration concessions and a 70% stake in two offshore Abu Dhabi concessions.
