Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) is going to open a London office, chairman Mustafa Sanalla told The Times. The new location is expected to help the company boost production.
The London office, set to open around March or April in Mayfair, will oversee consultancy tenders, portfolio management and capacity building services.
“There will be an agreement with well-known British companies, the large well-known companies in all specialisations, whether engineering or reservoir studies, specifically. And chain supply will be from London, over the medium term,” Sanalla said.
Libya has faced turbulence for years due to an ongoing conflict which has seen production halted multiple times due to reported sabotage attempts. Still, Sanalla said he hoped that BP would resume operations in the nation.
“I don’t think we have anyone in a leading position in the oil sector who did not study in Britain, especially in Robert Gordon University. All my colleagues studied there,” he said.
NOC expects to increase output by another 80,000 bpd in April, and plans to reach 2.1mn bpd by 2025.
Libya NOC opened its first international office in Houston in 2019 with the aim of accessing US equipment manufacturers and oilfield service providers.
