The oil and gas industry is an instrumental part of the fight against climate change, Mohammad Barkindo, Secretary-General of OPEC, said. He noted that rather than fighting the use of oil and gas, the solution lies within adopting technologies to reduce its carbon footprint.
“We believe that oil and gas are part of the solutions to climate change and the solution lies in technology, appropriate policies and corporate decisions,” he said, according to Nigerian media.
“A combination of these solutions would go a long way in minimising the impact of climate change,” he continued, noting that activists against the industry make it more difficult for oil producers to provide access to energy to billions of people.
