Shell is going to hand back upstream conessions to the government after its licences expire, a spokesperson said.

“We can confirm that Shell Tunisia Upstream will be handing back the Miskar concession to the Government of Tunisia upon licence expiry in June 2022,” the spokesperson said. “Shell have also requested an early hand back of the Hasdrubal licence in June 2022 at the same time as Miskar.”

Details of the discussions for the handbacks are underway, but remain confidential.

These discussions do not impact the licence agreement in Tunisia with Vivo Energy, according to Shell. While it is limiting its upstream involvement in the country, Shell will “continue to assess other opportunities in Tunisia beyond the upstream sector,” the spokesperson added.
