This year, the judging panel for the Oil & Gas Middle East and Refining & Petrochemicals Middle East Awards received a competitive crop of candidates for each of the 10 award categories. Each candidate was scrutinized until the judging panel was able to decide on a shortlist, and ultimately one winner and one highly commended nominee were chosen.
The winner of HSE Initiative of the Year 2018:
Saudi Aramco won the award this year for its CCS and CO2-EOR Pilot Project!
Saudi Aramco’s CCS and CO2-EOR Pilot Project captures waste carbon dioxide from large sources, such as power plants, and deposits it underground, so it can’t enter the atmosphere. Instead, carbon dioxide from Hawiyah NGL plant will be piped 85 kilometers to the Uthmaniyah field, where it will be injected into flooded oil reservoirs to enhance oil recovery. It is the largest project of its kind in the Middle East.
One of the judges observed that: “The lessons learned from this pilot have already started to be utilised at other facilities and oil fields around the country, and are being shared with others in the Middle East, and worldwide.”

ADNOC Sour Gas was highly commended this year for its Occupational Exposure Monitoring Strategy!
Judges said that ADNOC’s Occupational Exposure Monitoring Strategy took proactive steps to prevent long-term occupational illnesses, boosting its standing as a sought-after employer.
