As the 9th edition of the Oil & Gas Middle East and Refining & Petrochemicals Middle East Awards is set to celebrate the industry on September 12, we look at this year’s category finalists for Young Oil & Gas Professional of the Year.

This year presented a very competitive class of nominees, and seven finalists have made it through the rigorous selection process for Young Oil & Gas Professional of the Year 2018.

Abrar Alabbad, Saudi Aramco

Abrar Alabbad is a rock physicist who has worked as a geologist with Saudi Aramco for the past seven years. She has a Master of Science in Geophysics from Stanford University.

Fajer Ahmad, Kuwait Oil Company

Fajer Ahmad started her career as a deep drilling intern at Kuwait Oil Company. She has been a petroleum engineer at KOC for almost three years.

Mohammed Al-Ghazal, Saudi Aramco

As operations supervisor for Saud Aramco, Mohammed Al-Ghazal has worked on projects addressing open hole horizontal multistage technology, integrated cyber and physical security, downhole coring and corrosion and scale mitigation, among others.

  
Nasser Al Riyami, Petroleum Development Oman

Nasser Al Riyami is a process production chemist at Petroleum Development Oman.

Osamma Abid, McDermott

Osamma Abid has worked with McDermott as an analyst for four years. He has experience working on budgeting, business planning, internal controls, financial models and cash flow.

Shamael Al-Shuhail, Saudi Aramco

Shamael Al-Shuhail is a technology solutions architect at Saudi Aramco. In 2017, the company recognized her with an award for scoring the highest in a production engineering flagship course.

Tariq Almubarak, instructor, Saudi Aramco

Tariq Almubarak is a research scientist at Saudi Aramco, specializing in formation damage and stimulation. He has been with the company for six years, and has also held roles as gas reservoir engineer and as an instructor on formation damage and acidizing at Aramco’s Upstream Professional Development Center.

Last year, Dr Esra Al Hosani, an instrumentation and control engineer at ADCO, took home the prize. 

“I think what appealed to the judges was my research initiatives, which go beyond my job description as an instrumentation and control engineer,” Al Hosani said.
