SOGAT 2018 sees 300 participants attend Abu Dhabi event

The 14th edition of SOGAT was held last week in Abu Dhabi involving around 300 participants from 17 countries with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) the principal supporter of the event.

SOGAT 2018 focused on enhancing cost effective sour hydrocarbon treatment technologies where different new innovative technologies were presented by leading technology providers. Three workshops on sulphur recovery and amine treatment fundamentals and operational improvement of acid gas treatment units, with filtration and separation technologies, were part of the event.

In the international conference, there were 21 presentations on several new aspects of sour hydrocarbon management, while firms including Twister, PSE, NewSky Energy, Arkema and GarlockGPT put forward innovative technology solutions within the exhibition element of SOGAT. These technology providers were able address several issues confronting the region’s increasing need to treat ultra-sour gas to address increasing regional natural gas demand, as part of ADNOC’s 2030 strategy.

A team from Khalifa University of Science and Technology, led by Dr Peter Rodgers, earned the best presentation award at the conference. ADNOC’s research and development (R&D) department has funded their project on a computational fluid dynamics-based environmental gas dispersion prediction methodology which has been developed, validated, and applied to actual hazardous release scenarios in hydrocarbon processing facilities. This is the first R&D application completed in the UAE under ADNOC sponsorship.
