Ghalia Group, a UAE-based diversified business conglomerate with significant investment in the GCC and India, today announced it would become a Patron to the T10 League with the goal of strengthening the world’s first ten-over format cricket league. Ghalia Group plans to invest millions of US dollars to develop, strengthen and expand the league.

“Our involvement with the T10 League is part of a bigger vision of the group to strengthen the shorter format of cricket and spread its appeal to cricket fans in different countries,” said Ghalia Group Chairman Zahid Hussain. “Because of the format and the shorter duration – just 90 minutes, like a football match – we see a fast-pace growth and development of the format across the world and Ghalia Group would like to take a leadership in this movement.”

Ghalia Group made the announcement one day after the end of the 2nd T10 League, which included cricketers such as Zaheer Khan, Daren Sammy, Eoin Morgan, Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo, Hardus Viljoen, Andre Russell, Mohammed Irfan, Wahab Riaz, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Thisara Pereira, among many others.

Eight franchise teams played in two groups in 29 matches for the championship, won by Northern Warriors, led by former West Indian captain Daren Sammy, and coached by former Indian cricketer Robin Singh.

“The second Season of the T10 League has been an out-and-out success and we are pleased with the tournament and I am happy to announce that Ghalia Group will be the Patron of the T10 League for the next year,” Hussain said. “Despite the huge success of the T10 League, we feel the tournament has a lot of potential for improvement and growth and we want to partner with the T10 League management to be part of that growth story.”

The 3rd T10 League will take place from October 16-25, 2019 with eight existing teams playing 30 matches to decide the Champions.

Ghalia Group traces back its origin in the Gulf region dating back 15 years, by establishing Ghalia Petrol, a crude oil trading business.
