Saudi civil engineering company Mohammad Al Mojil Group (MMG) announced today through the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) that it has been awarded a contract by Saudi Aramco worth 220 million Saudi Riyals or US$58.8 millon for the Al Wasit Gas Program.

The contract will see the specialist oil and gas project engineering firm implement the engineering, design, procurement and construction for a gas plant at the Saudi national oil company’s major offshore gas project.

MMG is expected to start the work immediately, the Tadawul statement said.

As a company, MMG has been involved in various non-hydrocarbon-related ventures as part of a diversification drive.  Earlier this year the company established a company with UAE investor National Holding in Abu Dhabi, targeting projects in energy, utilities and petrochemicals in the UAE’s biggest emirate.

Last month it bought 20% of Saudi Massadr, a power and water project company, to boost its offering in the utilities sector in its home market.

“We know that the GCC countries are spending on infrastructure such as in water,” Construction Week last month reported Mohammad Mohsen Al-Harbi, general manager of administration and public affairs, as saying. “We see from a financial perspective that the deal is good for the company.”

Last week, Italy’s Saipem won a massive $2.2 billion Engineering and Construction contract for the Wasit project on the Arabiyah and Hasbah fields, located approximately 150 kilometres northeast of Jubail industrial city, in the Arabian Gulf.
