It was a day of celebrations as stakeholders from the energy industry, converged in Dubai for the 2018 Oil & Gas Middle East and Refining & Petrochemicals Middle East Awards on 12 September at the Buddha-Bar in Grosvenor House. The awards ceremony took place in the presence of a distinguished gathering of upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas industry professionals from the region.

Several shortlisted companies and individuals were in contest for each of the 10 awards this year, and various emotions were on display from the winners and ‘highly commended’ nominations, as their names were being called out from the stage.

Highly Commended – Occupational Exposure Monitoring Strategy by ADNOC Sour Gas
Winner – CCS and CO2-EOR Pilot Project by Saudi Aramco

Logistics Service Provider of the Year Award
Highly Commended – RSA Talke
Winner – Tristar Transport

Oil & Gas Woman of the Year Award
Highly Commended – Sudha Nakka Papisetty, team leader, HSE planning and performance, ADNOC Sour Gas
Winner – Sarah Baradah, head of legal and board secretary, Saudi Aramco Total Refining & Petrochemical Company

Oilfield Services Company of the Year Award
Highly Commended – Nexans
Winner – Schneider Electric

Operational Excellence Strategy of the Year Award
Highly Commended – On-the-job Training Strategy by Sadara Chemical Company
Winner – Zero Ethane Flaring Project by Yanbu NGL Fractionation Department, part of Saudi Aramco

Technical Innovation of the Year Award
Highly Commended – TransCoil Rigless Deployed Electric Submersible Pump System, a joint endeavour by Saudi Aramco and BHGE
Winner – Waterflood Monitoring with Surface-to-borehole Electromagnetics from Saudi Aramco

Training Initiative/Programme of the Year Award
Highly Commended – GTSC Professional Fireman Training Initiative by Gulf Technical & Safety Training Centre
Winner – Geoscience Train Programme by Saudi Aramco

Young Oil & Gas Professional of the Year Award
Highly Commended – Tariq Almubarak, instructor – formation damage and stimulation, Upstream Professional Development Center of Saudi Aramco
Winner – Mohammed Al-Ghazal, operations supervisor at Saudi Aramco

The jury panel this year, comprising five judges – Luciano Poli, president, India, Middle East and North Africa, Dow; Vivek Chandra, CEO and founder, Texas LNG; Nicholas Kjaer, general manager, Middle East, Churchill Drilling Tools; Ben Oudman, regional manager, DNV GL, oil and gas, Continental Europe, Eurasia, Middle East, India and Africa; and Annabel Green, chief technology officer, Tendeka – considered the merit of each and every entry, and decided the winner and the ‘highly commended.’

This year, the ‘CSR Initiative of the Year’ Award was judged by the editors of Oil & Gas Middle East and Refining & Petrochemicals Middle East, as Editor’s Choice from the nominations received.
