This year, the judging panel for the Oil & Gas Middle East and Refining & Petrochemicals Middle East Awards received a competitive crop of candidates for each of the 10 award categories. Each candidate was scrutinised until the judging panel was able to decide on a shortlist, and ultimately one winner and one ‘highly commended’ were chosen.
Shah plant is the largest project of its kind in the world. The plant receives one billion cubic feet per day of raw gas and produces half a billion cubic feet per day of sales gas, which is delivered to the network. The project produces 3.5 million tonnes of sulphur per year and is committed towards the highest standards of 100% HSE.
Sudha Nakka Papisetty, team leader, HSE planning and performance, ADNOC Sour Gas, who received the ‘Downstream Project of the Year’ Award on behalf of ADNOC Sour Gas, said: “Winning this award is a great achievement for ADNOC Sour Gas because we have done lot of efforts in introducing this $10bn plant.”
The ‘highly commended’ nomination in this category is the Muscat-Sohar Products Pipeline and Al Jifnain Terminal Project by Orpic. With the new pipeline between Sohar and Jifnain, the need to transport the products by sea is eliminated, therefore saving $10mn per year, and the pipeline is a significantly more efficient and safer transportation media than the vessels.
The jury panel this year, comprising five judges – Luciano Poli, president, India, Middle East and North Africa, Dow; Vivek Chandra, CEO and founder, Texas LNG; Nicholas Kjaer, general manager, Middle East, Churchill Drilling Tools; Ben Oudman, regional manager, DNV GL, oil and gas, Continental Europe, Eurasia, Middle East, India and Africa; and Annabel Green, chief technology officer, Tendeka – considered the merit of each and every entry, and decided the winner and the ‘highly commended’.

The 9th Oil & Gas Middle East and Refining & Petrochemicals Middle East Awards took place at the Buddha-Bar, Grosvenor House, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
