Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has launched a second wave of training to boost the capabilities of Omani small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Taazeez, which means “enhance”, is a tailor-made development programme aimed at helping the firms to compete more effectively for contracts.

The two week training scheme will be delivered by the company’s own experts and will cover various PDO business requirements such as vendor registration, business ethics, PDO’s tendering process, quality assurance, financial management, as well as health, safety and environment requirements and Lean business efficiency.

Indeed, PDO hosted its latest Lean continuous improvement session just last month with a visit by the Minister of Manpower Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri and his leadership team to the company’s headquarters.

This year, the Taazeez programme will be aimed at around 20 SMEs specialising in oil and gas engineering, an area where PDO is looking to localise more of its contracts in the sultanate.

PDO officially launched Tazeez last August for 40 SMEs specialising in renewable energy.

Last week, PDO witnessed the graduation of 940 Omanis as part of its training-for-employment programme. The 11th batch of graduates was the largest in the history of the firm’s National Objectives programme.
