Qatar’s Ras Laffan Port recorded two shipping milestones in 2011; docking 1000 tanker’s in a year; and achieving the 5000th LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) loading since the start of operations in 1996.
On the 28th December, the RasGas vessel “Simaisma” became the 1000th LNG tanker to arrive in the Port. Bound for Europe, the vessel is being loaded simultaneously with three other LNG tankers which in total will take on board approximately just over half million cubic meters of LNG.
In June last year, the Port celebrated the 5000th LNG loading since the start of operations.
To mark the occasion, a ceremony was held in Ras Laffan Port with senior representatives from RasGas, Qatargas, Nakilat and Qatar Petroleum.
LNG is produced by the two major Qatar Petroleum (QP) joint venture companies, Qatargas and RasGas, which are both based in Ras Laffan Industrial City, and managed and administered by Qatar Petroleum.
