Egypt’s West Delta Electricity Production Company has signed up Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) and Besix to carry out the civil works for its new 750 MW combined-cycle power plant in Sidi Krir, Alexandria, Egypt.
The deal is worth Egyptian pound 560 million (US $103 million).
The contract is for the construction work for two 250 MW combustion turbine generators and one 250 MW steam turbine generator.
It also includes the plant’s onshore, outfall and inlet cooling system. In addition, the firms will carry out the construction of the non-process building, the steel structures and all civil works related to the power block.
The work is scheduled for completion within 32 months. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Toyota Tsusho are supplying the gas turbines for the project.
OCI construction group managing director, Osama Bishai, commented: “The Sidi Krir contract further reinforces OCI’s leadership in the power sector. Over the past 12 months, OCI has been awarded four power plant contracts in both Egypt and Algeria. The group has developed specialised expertise in the construction of large, industrial power plants and continues to play a primary role in developing the infrastructure for the growing economies in North Africa and the Middle East.”
In Egypt, the construction group won contracts totalling US $230 million for works on the thermal power plant in El Tebbin and the solar combined-cycle power plant being built in Kuraymat.
In Algeria, OCI was awarded a € 560 million (US $830 million) contract to build a 1,200 MW gas-fired power plant in consortium with Alstom.
