Partners ADNOC and Total, operator of the Abu Al Bu Khoosh Field offshore Abu Dhabi have been celebrating their success at the Oil & Gas Middle East Awards, held last night in Dubai.

Total ABK scooped the Trophy for the “Best International Collaboration Award of the Year” at the Gala evening hosted by ITP Business, Publisher of Oil & Gas Middle East magazine, as well as the “Enhanced Hydrocarbon Recovery Project” Award for its full field management program at Abu Al Bu Khoosh.

Adrian Pearce, Geosciences Manager for Total Abu Al Bukhoosh, received the awards in the presence of senior regional oil industry figures, as well as representatives from the crucial technology, service and support companies, oilfield service providers, and upstream engineering and project consultants from throughout the Middle East.

Speaking about the Enhanced Hydrocarbon Recovery Award, Pearce said: “One of the most impressive things for me is that this field has been going for around 38 years, and most companies would be looking over their shoulders at this point wondering when they will turn the taps off, but between Total and ADNOC that’s absolutely not been the case.”

He added: “Both partners are keen to get every last drop of oil out of the field and that makes it a challenging, exciting and rewarding partnership. The multi-lateral wells are targeting very small layers, and one of the challenges is to do this economically. We’ve had fantastic support from ADNOC, we have meetings where they challenge us of course, but that has helped build and drive the relationship as it is today,”

In examining the finalists, the Award’s judges were impressed to note that Total ABK spearheaded the introduction of advanced technologies to offset natural pressure decline. Artificial lift, gas lift was employed using associated gas, then water injection was implemented for secondary recovery. Tertiary gas injection has also been introduced, so all these techniques are being implemented at the same time, in addition to some highly deviated multi-drain horizontal wells.

“Regarding the International Collaboration of the Year Award, we are obviously delighted. As a result of the hard work that has gone in from both parties over the decades we find ourselves in a great position today. The judges have also highlighted the ABK vocational training programme which has now been extended beyond our own project and is helping other ADNOC Groups in their quest for the next generation of oilfield technicians, so we are very proud of this too.”

The Awards, organized by Oil & Gas Middle East and ArabianOilandGas.com, had its third hugely successful outing last night at the luxury Westin Hotel in Dubai, UAE.

Awards were given in thirteen categories, and Total ABK joined the ranks of Saudi Aramco, Shell, Schlumberger, Mott MacDonald, Al Mansoori Specialized Engineering, Equate, Emerson, DNO International and Schlumberger, among others on the on the winners podium.
